Bali International Convention Centre Unveils Its Sophisticated New Look

The iconic Bali International Convention Centre (BICC) is delighted to unveil enhanced meeting facilities and a sophisticated new look following its recent US$ 5 million refurbishment. This extensive project was meticulously planned and carried out in phases over the course of several months. BICC remained fully operational during the entire renewal process and successfully hosted a number of high-profile meetings.

The completion of this refurbishment elevates BICC to the highest possible level. Every small detail has been taken into careful consideration and executed with precision. The end result is a world-class meeting venue with versatile facilities. Being adjacent to The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali makes for quality events that are productive as well as pleasurable.

The official front entrance to BICC now features a porte-cochere lined with artistically carved timber columns to create a more defined point of arrival for visitors. Bathed in natural sunlight, the open-plan foyer is a welcoming environment complete with subtle Balinese accents.

There is also a separate side entrance to BICC along with two VIP holding rooms to accommodate heads of state and other important dignitaries. The elegantly-appointed Bali Room is a formal setting with a private washroom and kitchenette. As an alternative, the newly launched Nusa Dua Room is slightly smaller in size and exudes warmth with glimpses of Indonesian batik and locally-inspired furnishings.

Public areas throughout BICC provide extra space to gather before and after events. Club chairs together with designer seats are strategically positioned in clusters for business delegates to network in comfort. The entire centre incorporates accessible hallways, wide doors and elevators making it a wheelchair-friendly facility.

Mangupura Hall, formerly known as Nusa Indah Hall, has been tastefully refreshed with customized carpeting, wall panels and an acoustic ceiling. At almost 2000m2 in size, this spacious venue has a built-in stage and accommodates 2500 meeting delegates in a theatre style set up. The name Mangupura historically means a ‘place to find beauty’ and was recommended by one of Bali’s local regents.

BICC’s auditorium, with its 506 built-in seats, has also been given a smart update and is the only tiered theatre of its kind in Bali. Designed to engage audiences, it is the perfect facility for tutorials, speeches and interactive presentations.

Anticipating international and domestic business needs, BICC now has a total of 26 revitalized meeting rooms. Each room has its own distinct character that combines island charm with modern functionality. An exclusive group of 4 breakout rooms located on the ground floor benefit from a private foyer and have all been named after a different tropical flower. These rooms all enjoy natural lighting and showcase Bali’s creative heritage. Innovative double-sided service cabinets ensure that coffee breaks within this area can be set up without distracting meeting participants.

A large Exhibition Hall also on the ground floor overlooks a manicured stretch of garden. This multi-functional space covers 1363 m2 and has an internal staircase that accesses an upstairs gallery. Just next door is The Cafe, which is a contemporary-styled spot to indulge in light bites and refreshments.

More meeting rooms with varying layouts and table configurations can be found upstairs. Each takes on the name of a major Indonesian city and is styled to further highlight local creativity through the use of traditional textiles and uplifting colours. There is also a decorative stone wall carved by Balinese artisans to depict scenes from ancient Hindu mythology.

Another brand new facility is The Lounge located on the 2nd floor of BICC. This modern space has full length windows, a lively decor and relaxed ambience for the pleasure of in-house delegates. It has a fully-stocked bar and an assortment of table settings to socialize in style over a casual drink or two.

Signature to BICC is Westin’s ‘Work Well’ brand concept that entails helping delegates make the most of their meeting experience. Personal comfort is foremost and this extends to the use of ergonomic furnishings and natural lighting wherever possible. One chair in particular has been designed specifically for Westin and comes with a handy laptop drawer and a hook to hang bags.

In addition, BICC fully endorses sustainability and certain measures have been implemented to ensure that meetings do not compromise the surrounding environment. These actions range from using recycled paper notepads and energy efficient lights to eliminating table linen and reducing plastic water bottles.

BICC has been the island’s preferred meeting venue for the past 22 years having hosted a profusion of world-class events for respected bodies such as United Nations and ASEAN. Following the completion of this inspiring refurbishment, BICC is once again preparing to be in the international spotlight with Miss World 2013 and the APEC CEO Summit.

Key to BICC’s ongoing success is a professional team of meeting and banqueting associates. The team is on hand to provide expert assistance and help plan every event down to the smallest detail. From prestigious conferences for global leaders to power breakfasts and themed dinners, BICC will continue to lead the way with gracious hospitality and impeccable service standards.

“This multi-million dollar revamp has given Bali International Convention Centre a new lease of life just in time for a busy year of prestigious events. With its refreshing design concept and upgraded facilities, BICC hopes to make Bali the ultimate MICE destination. Essentially, the venue is all about delivering high quality and personalized service, which is what really counts in such a competitive sector,” comments Managing Director, Mr. Bipan Kapur.
