Nusa Dua, Bali, 4^th November 2014… A record-breaking crowd of music lovers gathered at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali on Friday, 31^st October 2014 for the annual UNICEF Charity event. Special guest performers for the evening were singing sensations Nowela and Petra Sihombing along with children from Farabi Music School.

As the winner of Indonesian Idol 2014, Papuan born Nowela is known for her soulful voice that transcends all musical genres. Similarly, the multi-talented Petra Sihombing continues to enjoy chart topping success with his feel-good brand of music. Both artists generously donated their time to participate in this worthy initiative.

Taking place in the elegant ambience of the Mangupura Hall, this uplifting concert wowed the audience with a number of crowd-pleasing hits performed against a stunning visual backdrop. The proceeds from all ticket sales will go directly to UNICEF and channelled to a project that vaccinates and educates impoverished children across the Asia Pacific region.

Prior to the event, fans and aspiring young singers had the opportunity to meet with Nowela and Petra in person during a Musical Rendezvous at the adjacent Prego restaurant. This exclusive gathering enabled both artists to talk about their experiences in the Indonesian music industry. It also included a refreshing afternoon tea and photo session.

The concert was essentially a celebration for children from all walks of life. The Westin also bussed in a group of underprivileged youngsters from the Dana Punia Orphanage. Other seats were allocated for sponsors, residents and members of Bali’s travel industry.

A UNICEF video presentation, highlighting children in the developing world, was shown as a prelude to the concert together with a short animation. The Farabi kids were then welcomed to the stage where they opened the show with an upbeat song accompanied by a live band. 

The evening continued with alternating performances by Nowela and Petra singing popular songs and connecting with the audience. Positive video messages, shot earlier in the week, were also shown with both artists sharing details about their own personal inspirations and what they value in life.  

The finale was a moving collaboration between Nowela, Petra and the children from Farabi Music School. Their rendition of the Michael Jackson classic “Heal the World” was performed against a powerful backdrop of UNICEF visuals to end the concert on a high note.

Lastly, brief speeches were made by UNICEF’s Chief of Field Surabaya, Indonesia Mr I Made Sutama and Hotel Manager of The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, Mr. Jason Leung. Floral bouquets were then presented to both Nowela and Petra followed by a final photo session.

For the past 19 years, The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali under the Starwood banner has partnered with UNICEF to raise funds for a number of worthy causes that benefit impoverished children around the world. In the Asia Pacific region alone, the UNICEF Check Out For Children Challenge has supported the immunization of thousands of young women and children against a number of preventable diseases. This year our event attracted 1,320 guests raising a total of IDR 240,000,000 or USD 20,000 for this worthy cause.
