The assembly was held from Sunday, 20 to Thursday, 24 March 2022 inviting more than 178 parliamentary members from 115 countries. The inaugural ceremony was hosted by Ibu Puan Maharani, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and  officially opened by Bapak Joko Widodo, The President of The Republic of Indonesia together with The President of IPU Mr. Duarte Pacheco in Mangupura Hall of Bali International Convention Centre of The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali.

The lobby of internationally renowned Bali International Convention Center was altered into a majestic indoor mini-rainforest showcasing Indonesian indigenous herbal plants and native crops, in line with the assembly's commitment to implementing an agenda that favors nature or known as the "Green Agenda". On Saturday, Mr. Duarte Pacheco along with Ibu Puan Maharani and IPU Secretary General, Martin Chungong planted Longan Tree (Dimocarpus longan) in the courtyard of the BICC to demonstrate IPU's commitment to mitigating the impacts of climate change.

Numerous dining venues and exhibitions are available to cater the participants' crave for the archipelago’s signature cuisine and local products. In addition, health protocols strictly implemented to curb the transmission of COVID-19 during the meetings. Thus, all participants attending the 144th Session of the IPU required undergoing COVID-19 tests, wearing masks, and maintaining physical distance at all times.
